Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the  Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. Section winners get Free Entry into next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cathy! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site. |

of
"Weekly
Tournament
Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. sharp! The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-293-4397 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

even
stronger
turnout
of

the most accurate analyzers in the area converged upon this think tank more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:2 of Skyland XXIV. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cathy! Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and occasionally monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2108) achieved a slightly superior position from his Bird's Opening versus the CCC's #3 player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui"  Fuerstman (2026) who overlooked a simple tactic on move 31 (See Game 0959)
and resigned allowing Pealer
to share the lead with "Wild" Bill
Connell (1915) who welcomed Team
Asheboro's William
T. Mahan (1798) to CCC
competition each with 1-0. In the "B" Section, superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1798) prosecuted an
ambitious attack against Team Asheboro's Tom "Terrific" Hales (1762)
but could only Draw to lead
with 1.5-5.
Mean-
while,
Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1605) went "all in" and hit a
card on the river against Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1626) while Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1703) split the point with
returnee on leave from Afghanistan
Staff Sergeant Brian Fraiser (1609). In the "C" Section, Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1566) turned the tables
on Team NODA's Tony "the Tiger" Hicks (1688)
to share the lead with returnee to CCC
competition Shawn Claitt
(1463) who beat down "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1315) each with 1 point. In
the Lower Section, Chris McBride (Unr) with a superior
position, ran out the clock of Manfred "Mann" Vees (738) to lead with 1.5-.5. In
addition, Wallace Hussey
(1047) bested John Knarr (Unr). In
order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable"-

facility
was
great
and
everybody
was
happy!
We
hope
that
more
players
will
join
us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess! Everyone is
