| The Charlotte
Chess Club, an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the  Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Primarily an adult club, the CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top, "B", "C", Lower. Section winners get Free Entry into next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, friendly management and our own personal waitress, Cathy! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site. Note: Non-members will be preempted by CCC members who arrive before the round begins! |
| Explanation
of "Weekly Tournament Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. sharp! The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-293-4397 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

2nd in Reserve Angel II Mint Hill, NC 9-25-11: Six honored members of the CCC Royal  Guard converged upon
the palacial estate of NM LF in order to participate in
Reserve
Angel II. The $10 entry fee guaranteed 3 rounds of G29 and a hardy lunch! (Bill makes great
chili!) When the smoke
cleared, "Wild" Bill Connell
(1709q), who
yielded one Draw
to NM Leland "Ennui"
Fuerstman (2057q),
finished clear 1st
Place with 2.5-.5 and pocketed $40. Top Under 1700 was Bill "Mind-weeder" Wright (1633q) who also Drew Fuerstman, scored 2-1 and took home $20. In addition, Eerenberg defeated Fuerstman in the final round (See Game 0984). In order to observe all results see "Crosstable." The competition was fierce and a good time was had by all. Fuerstman directed. |

Charlotte,
NC 9-21-11: A stronger turnout of 17 of
the most congenial calculaters from 2 counties
converged upon this mental jousting arena more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:2 of Skyland XXVII. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cathy!
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot
coffee and other
beverages, analyzed on our demo
board and the giant
flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) In
the Top
Section, the CCC's #5
player, the pride of Mint Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2059) inadvertantly
played the White
side of a rarely seen variation of the Two Knights Defense
orchestrated by 74 year old Slobodan "the Mad
Serb" Sinanovic (1877) who overlooked a
potential crusher on move 16 (See Game 0983)
and went on to lose. Meanwhile, Team Asheboro's Wil  "Power" Mahan (1944)
outplayed Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1834) to
share the lead with superhero Daryl
"Flash" Gordon
(1826) who split the point with Team Ashboro guru
Tom
"Terrific" Hales
(1775) and 2 others, each with 1 point. In the "B" Section,
Dr. Ron
"Dutch" Breukelaar
(1642) scored another minor upset by defeating new CCC member
Clarence "Travis" Walton (1720) to lead with 2-0. In addition, Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin
(1555) unloaded on Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1649).
In the "C" Section,
"Smokin" Corey
Frazier (1426) got by Fabian Abril
(1204) to lead with 2-0.
Meanwhile, John
Knarr (1033) Drew with new CCC member Joe Webb
(Unr). In order to observe
all
results see "Current Crosstable"- The
facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
players will join us next
Wednesday to dine, socialize and play
chess!
