NEWS &VIEWS 9-12-02
By NM Leland Fuerstman
Newton 4-0
in Top Section; Ozherelyev, Brazell, F. Mu 3-1in
Middle; Essex 4-0
in Lower Section of Wendy's XXXVIII
Charlotte,
NC 9-11-02: A rather paltry turnout
of only 36 of the Charlotte area's most cunning
calculators first
shared a moment of silence for those who perished in the World Trade Center
catastrophy exactly one year ago, and then participated in
Rd:4
of Wendy's XXXVIII. In the Top Section with
4-0,
a seemingly unbeatable
NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2236) will attempt to win all,
or a share of the $100 Bonus next week
after his successful encounter with Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1886).(See
Game 0250) Meanwhile, the crowd watched NM Leland
"El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2021) suffer
a terrible ass whooping at the hands of David "RichMan" Richards (1745)
only to see the latter player's flag fall (See
Game 0252) while NM John "Night-Train" Lane
(2091)
smoked Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1789). In the Middle Section,
Deneil
"BedSty"
Brazell
(1660) deported Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1420) while
Frank
"Moo" Mu (1628) beat down the good Reverend Bernard "Jim" Baker
(1603) to share the lead with 3-1.
In addition, Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1516) short circuited
Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg (1535), Danesh "Ayatollah" Dadgar
(1619) dispensed with Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1420), "Iron" Mike
Eberhardinger (1600) overwhelmed Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1397)(See
Game 0251) and "Smokin'
Brian Fraiser (1655)
split the point with Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1720).
In the Lower Section, Todd Essex leads
with 4-0 after a decisive win over
Hao Lee (Unr). Other Lower Section winners were: Mike
Richards, Darrell "Wilkes" Booth, Joe Shirlen,
James
"Sticks" Ulaky, Joshua "Moo" Mu, Erik "WD-40"
Rust,
David
"Grizzly" Adams and Lee "R&Bman
