NEWS & VIEWS 11-27-08
Fuerstman Takes
Top; Morais "B"; Alexander "C"; Gatlin, Lee Lower Section of
Seafarer IV
Our
100th 5 Round Event Since Wendy's
I * 2-10-99!
Charlotte, NC 11-26-08:
A grand total of 18
of the finest calculators in the Charlotte area converged upon this
mental jousting arena more
commonly known as the Seafarer (Just
look for the 3-D Whale) in order to participate in Seafarer IV. The
CCC was honored by the visit of local chess icon NM John Lane
who took on all comers in speed chess. - In the Top Section,
in spite of the fact that he lost miserably to Salisbury favorite son Greg "Hornblower" Hall (1795) (See Game 0770),
the CCC's #5 player, the pride of Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2011) backed his way into
clear 1st Place with 3-2. In
addition, Charleston visitor Stephen
Welt (1871) left a few welts on Slobodan "the Mad Serb"
Sinanovic (1774). In the "B" Section,
Alain "Rastamon" Morais (1727) outplayed Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1231) to take clear 1st Place with a perfect 5-0 and win Free Entry
into Quark VIII. Meanwhile, Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1727) welcomed back from Iraq
Staff
Sergeant Brian Fraiser (1656). In the "C" Section, Michael "Xan" Alexander (1504) expatriated Vadims
"the Mad Latvian" Mudrovs (1534) to take clear 1st Place with 2-3?! In the Lower Section, in spite of the fact that
he lost to Morais, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1231) finished =1st-2nd Place with Lee "Roger" Moore each with 3 points. In
addition, Charlie "Tenor" Carerros (1437) squeeked by Corey
Frazier (1213). In
order to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable". (The
facility was great! Everybody was happy! We hope that more players will
join us
next week to dine, socialize and play chess!)
- Long live the CCC! - Quark VIII - Nov

Fuerstman, Xin Coast Home in Quark 8
Charlotte, NC
11-29-08: A grand total of 8 of the most amicable
chess players in the Metrolina area converged upon the Mint Hill Public Library in order to participate in Quark 8. In the Top Section, the pride of Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2011) almost eclipsed the
CCC "fastest game"
record after he snagged a piece against Michael Alexander (1457) in 3
moves! (1 d4
Nf6 2 Bg5 c6!? 3 e3?? Qa5!-+) in Rd:1, barely fended off the advances
of an aggressive Navaneet Galagali (1051) in Rd:2 (See Game 0771) and agreed to a
Grandmaster Draw in the final round versus Samuel "Xman" Xin (1969) who dispatched of
Charlie "Tenor" Cararros (1437) in Rd:1
and Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1774) in Rd:2. Each finished =1st-2nd Place with 2.5-.5 and
took home $60.
To observe all results see "Crosstable." Fuerstman
