Fuerstman Leads Top; Wright "B"; Frazier "C"; Abril Lower Section of Skyland XXIX
Charlotte, NC 12-7-11: A stronger turnout of 14 of the most gifted mental jousters in the county converged upon this think tank more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:3 of Skyland XXIX. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cathy! Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #3 player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2056), playing the Black side of a hybrid Queen's Gambit Declined, fended off a direct assault and finally trapped the Queen of Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1817) (See Game 0998) to lead with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile, all members were pleasantly surprised by the return of the CCC's #2 player, Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2108) who sacked a Pawn and was summarily granted a reprieve by "Judge" Slobodan  Sinanovic (1894) in the form of a K vs K Draw. In addition, superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1861) became involved in a wild, double edged attacking affair against "Wild" Bill Connell (1856) (See Game 0999) who patiently stacked his Rooks and forced a timely perpetual check Draw. In the "B" Section, Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1602) endured an early sacrificial onslaught by the good Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1700) but turned the tables in the late middlegame to emerge victorious and lead with 2.5-.5. In the Lower Section, Fabian "Flaco" Abril (1363) suffered a vicious mauling at the hands of Manfred "Mann" Vees (707) who mishandled a winning attack and faltered in the end allowing "Flaco" to lead with 2-1. In addition, James "Gaffer" Bourque (1398) defeated "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1420). In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable"The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play chess! Everyone is welcome... Long live the CCC!
Fuerstman, Sinanovic Share Top Honors in Reserve Angel III
Mint Hill, NC 11-6-11:  Four honored members of the CCC Royal Guard converved upon the palatial estate of NM LF in order to participate in Reserve Angel III. The $10 entry fee guaranteed 3 rounds of G29 and the beverage of your choice. In Rd:1, the CCC's #3 player, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2030q) emerged into a completely even R&P ending versus Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1703q) who overstepped the time limit. Meanwhile, superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1751q) vanquished Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1831q). In Rd:2, NM LF endured a severe beating at the hands of the 75 year old "Mad Serb" while the "Mindweeder" sarcled the synaptic regions of a superhero's brain. In the final round, with seconds remaining on his own clock, Sinanovic beat Wright on time while "ennui boy" prevailed over Gordon. When the smoke cleared, Fuerstman and Sinanovic finished =1st-2nd Place with 2-1 and pocketed $15 each. In order to observe all results, see "Crosstable." The competition was fierce and a good time was had by all. Fuerstman directed.
