Eubanks Leads Top; Richards "B"; Frazier "C" Section of Skyland XXXII
Charlotte, NC 3-21-12:  An solid turnout of 16 of the most intense calculators in the county converged upon this mental jousting arena more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:3 of Skyland XXXIIHey, does anyone remember ex-Expert Brian Combs from 20 years ago or ex-"A" Player Jackie Ryan from 10 years ago?! They always come back to the CCC! (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cindy. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Columbia, SC, Expert Keith "Chucky" Eubanks (2140) playing what became the White side of a Philador, missed an early pawn snatch on move 9 but snagged a Pawn in the middlegame versus the CCC's #1 player, Expert Shawn "P Diddy" Pealer (2146) and kept the pressure on enough to win in the end (See Game 1041) and lead with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2035) sprung an old anti-Dragon trick (that I learned from ex-Expert Ken Baxter 20 years ago!) on superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1865) who was forced to resign on his 10th move!? (See Game 1040). In addition, Team Asheboro Expert Wil "Mayhem" Mahan (2021) represented the Defense against Judge Slobodan Sinanovic (1858) and maneuvered around the courtroom well enough to win the exchange and the case. In the "B" Section, ex-class "A" Player Dawuud Richards (1606) patiently ground down Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1788) in the middlegame and finally upset the good Doctor in the end to lead with 2-0. In addition, Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1789) beat down "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1440) while Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1772) exacted revenge upon Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1579). In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable" The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play one rated game of chess! Every one is welcome. We're back, Baby! Long live the CCC!
Team S.C. Prevails as Eubanks, Tsao Finish Equal 1st-2nd in Reserve Angel VI
Charlotte, NC 3-3-12: A rather light turnout of 9 motivated competitors gathered on the 7th floor in a very quiet room at the Dowd "Y" in order to participate in Reserve Angel VI. Taking a strategic half point bye in Rd:1, Columbia, SC's Expert Keith "Chucky" Eubanks (2116) dispatched of Matthew Green (1947) and Expert Patrick McCartney (2089) to finish =1st-2nd with 14 year old phenom from Clemson, SC, Kevis Tsao (1892) who Drew McCartney in Rd:1, got by Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1604) in Rd:2 and defeated NM Garrick "the Outlaw" Wells (2061) in the final round each winning $67.50(See Crosstable)  (The facility was absolutely perfect, though this ex-NM had a difficult time getting used to the "silence"!!)
