NEWS & VIEWS 3-29-12
Pealer, Fuerstman Lead Top;
Richards "B"; Frazier "C" Section of Skyland
XXXII
Charlotte,
NC 3-28-12: A stronger turnout
of 18
of the most competitive mental jousters in the
area converged upon this 5 star restaurant more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:4 of Skyland XXXII. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cindy.
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot
coffee and other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board and monitored
the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) In
the Top Section, the
CCC's #3 player, the pride of Mint Hill,
ex-Member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2046) played the White side of an Alekhine's Defense
against the CCC's #2 player,
the pride of Columbia, SC, Expert Keith
"Chucky" Eubanks
(2134)
and gained a slight advantage in the middle game
before Black
shored up the position with 12...e6!, 14...d5! and
quickly gained equality. After a premature
sacrifice on move 28, White was required to sac the
exchange creating a material imbalance, but with
12 minutes remaining in a slightly superior
position, (See Game 1042) Black
blundered on move 42. Fuerstman
shares the lead with the CCC's #1
player,
Expert Shawn
"P Diddy" Pealer
(2137) who outplayed new CCC member
Matthew Green (1961)
each with 3-1. Meanwhile,
Expert Wil "Mayhem"
Mahan
(2021) upended superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon
(1865) while Expert Patrick McCartney (2089) split
the point with co-Team Wells Fargo member "Wild" Bill Connell (1872).
In the "B" Section,
14 year old Mark
Biernacki (1769) took down Dr. Ron
"Dutch" Breukelaar (1788) while visitor from New
Jersey, Brian
Jackson (1722) introduced new CCC
member Eric Hartung (Unr) to tournament play.
In addition, Paul
"Survivalist" Lucas
(1790) split the point with Bill "Mindweeder"
Wright (1768).
Dawuud Richards
still leads with 2-0. In
the "C" Section,
in spite of the fact that he lost to Fabian
"Flaco" Abril
(1420), "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1440) still leads
with 2-2. In order to observe
all
results see "Current Crosstable" The
facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
players will join us next
Wednesday to dine, socialize and play
one rated game of chess! Every
one is welcome. We're back, Baby! Long live
the CCC!

Charlotte, NC

light turnout of 9 motivated competitors
gathered on the 7th floor in a very quiet room
at the Dowd "Y" in order to
participate in Reserve
Angel VI. Taking a
strategic half point bye in Rd:1, Columbia, SC's Expert Keith "Chucky"
Eubanks
(2116) dispatched of Matthew Green (1947) and
Expert Patrick McCartney (2089) to finish =1st-2nd with
14 year old phenom from Clemson, SC, Kevis Tsao
(1892) who Drew
McCartney in Rd:1,
got by Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1604) in Rd:2 and
defeated NM
Garrick "the Outlaw" Wells (2061) in the final
