windyCCC NEWS & VIEWS  4-26-12windy
Fuerstman Leads Top; Breukelaar, Wright "B"; Frazier "C/D" Section of Skyland XXXIII
Charlotte, NC 4-25-12:  An equally good turnout of 17 of the most motivated calculators in the county converged upon this grand ballroom more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:3 of Skyland XXXIII(CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cindy. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2064) pulled out the rarely seen Alapin Attack against superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon's (1867) Sicilian Defense and after enduring an exchange sac, proceeded to demolish the Black position (See Game 1053) to lead with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile, the CCC's #1 player, Expert Shawn "P Diddy" Pealer (2133) faced off against the CCC's #4 player, Expert Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2056) who elected to the use the 5 second delay feature and proceeded to exact a 105 Rook vs Knight Draw with 2 second remaining on his clock! In addition, newly crowned Expert Matthew Green (2008) drew Paul "Survivalist" Lucas' King out like a poultice (See Game 1054) and checkmated it on the 5th rank! In the "B" Section, Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1762) outplayed Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1568) while Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1747) welcomed returning member from 27 years ago, Tim Dwight (1365) each leading with 1.5. In the "C/D" Section, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1440) beat down his Nemesis Fabian "El Flaco" Abril (1420) to lead with 3-0. In addition, Dr. Ron "Feet" Futerman (1152) welcomed returning member from 10 years ago Marat Kocharyan (1089) while Rich Trela (Unr) defeated Joe Shirlen (960). In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable" The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play one rated game of chess! Everyone is welcome. Long live the CCC!
Eubanks Goes 2-0 in Mint Hill IV
Mint Hill, NC 4-15-12: It was "winner, winner, chicken dinner!" as 5 chess energumens converged upon the palatial estate of NM LF in order to participate in Mint Hill IV. In Rd:1, Team S.C. captain Expert Keith "Chuckie" Eubanks (2137) went a grueling 67 moves versus a stubborn Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1747) who missed a "win" on move 27 and in time trouble, could not contain the final Pawn (See Game 1047) to lead with 1-0. Meanwhile, the CCC's #3 player, the pride of Mental Hill, ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2064) got into a complicated mess with Team S.C. Expert James "Big" MacDougall (2014) (See Game 1049) which ultimately produced an unclear mutual Draw. When the smoke cleared in Rd:2, Eubanks had dispatched of Fuerstman (See Game 1048) to finish clear 1st Place with 2-0 and pocket $30 while MacDougall held on against Paul "Survivalist" Lucas' (1790) sacrificial onslaught to finish clear 2nd Place with 1.5-.5. After the games, friendly analysis and a complete "chicken dinner" was enjoyed by all. For results, see "Crosstable."  (Fuerstman Directed.)
