Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at Wendy's
Restaurant, 715
Charlottetowne Ave
Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a
perpetual
5 round tournament
with
one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm.
The time control is 30/1, G30
- Top Section G90.
Entry fee is $4.
($6 for non-members) The Annual club
membership
fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue guarantees
a private room with plenty of
tables, good lighting, great food, close
parking, limited smoking and friendly management?! Join us
to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated
games. Your first
visit is FREE!
Non-members, who have visited
more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2.
The CCC sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss at Best Western Sterling Hotel - Suites,
242 E. Woodlawn Rd.
and other
occasional
tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming

Welcome to the CCC

Greetings from
Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, Earth to everyone out there in cyberia,
and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. On this page, which is
continuously updated, we will report a weekly synopsis of the previous
meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other
interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening
pleasure. We welcome your contributions and comments on our

Attention All
CCC Members:
The CCC will continue to meet at Wendy's,
however, until we find a new facility, the
5 round tournament has
been suspended. Note: Players may agree to play rated games and
the results will be reported to the USCF.

Kliber Clobbers Top; Brosi Takes "B/C"; Turner, M. Alexander Lower
Section
of Wendy's
96
Charlotte, NC 5-14-08: A grand total of 20 of the most competent
calculators in the county ignored the boycott and converged upon this
grand ballroom more commonly known as
Wendy's in order to
participate in Wendy's 96. In the Top Section,
the pride of Matthews, NC, Ex-Expert and soon to be Expert again Michael "Bolton" Kliber (1947) fended off the
advances of Sebuh Semerciyan (1685) to take clear 1st Place with a perfect 5-0 and
pocket $50.
(According
to the USCF Rating Calculator Kliber's new rating will be 1998). Clear 2nd Place was Expert Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2037)
with 3.5-1.5
who yielded a Draw to mild mannered reporter for the Daily Planet
Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1761). Superman
took
Clear 1st Place in the B/C Section with 2.5-2.5. In
addition, Marnzell "Pat" Hand (1600) did the Professor Moriority
routine and upset Dr. Gil "Sherlock" Holmes (1807). In the Lower Section, Andrew "Lefty" Turner and Michael Alexander were =1st-2nd Place with 3 points.
Other Lower Section winners were: "Slamin" Rich Sneed and "Smokin" Corey Frazier. All
results may be observed on the current "Crosstable." (Sorry,
all CCC Saturday events have been postponed until further notice. LF)

(1346) Clear 1st in Quark VII
Charlotte NC 5-17-08: A grand total of 6 of the most competent
competitors in the Carolina's converged at our great new
location, the quiet, comfortable
and spacious ballroom of the
Best Western Hotel on
Woodlawn, in
order to participate in Quark VII. In the Top Section, the pride of Lexington, SC,
21 year old Gary "Sandbagger" Fredericks (1346) was awarded a full
point Bye in Rd:1, outplayed Marnzell "Pat" Hand
(1600) in Rd:2 and upset NM
Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2034) in Rd:3
to capture clear 1st Place
with 3-0
and pocket $60.
Clear 2nd Place was Fuerstman with 2-1 winning $30. In
