Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm
(or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at the Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top $100! "B", "C", Lower Free Entry next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking and friendly management?! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC, NCCA or USCF simply show up at the site. |

NEWS & VIEWS 5-21-09Fuerstman Takes Top; Gordon "B"; Gatlin "C"; Balogh Lower Section of Skyland II Charlotte, NC 5-20-09: A grand total of 18 of the most loyal members of the CCC royal guard gathered at this grand mental sports complex more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant, in order to participate in Skyland II. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by a team of friendly waitresses. Most enjoyed a  generously
portioned delicious home
style meal for a ridiculously
low price ($5.95!),
drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board
and occasionally monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned down;
open 24 hours!!) In the Top Section,  the
CCC's #4 player, the pride of
Mint Hill, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman (2023)
received an early birthday greeting in the form of a trouncing at the
hands of Team Asheboro's favorite son, 2008 NC Scholastic Champion Jonathon "Livingston" McNeill (1960) (See Game 0798) but still finished clear 1st Place
with 3-2.
In addition, Team Asheboro's Tom "Terrific" Hales (1807) outmaneuvered Slobodan
"the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1807). In the "B" Section, Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1679) outplayed Michael "Xan" Alexander
(1443) to finish clear 1st Place
with 2.5-2.5.
In the "C" Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1451) salvaged a  Draw against Josh
"GTO" Balogh (1299) to finish
clear 1st Place with 3-2. In the Lower Section, Balogh overwhelmed the opposition to
finish clear 1st Place with 4.5-.5 and
win Free Entry
into Skyland III. In addition, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1319) beat down
"Smokin" Joe Shirlen (1067). In
order to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable"

facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join us next Wednesday to

Fuerstman Takes 1st Place in Quark
XI
Charlotte, NC
4-25-09: A grand total of 5 of the most
amicable
chessplayers in the Metrolina area converged upon the Mint Hill Public Library in order to participate in Quark XI. In the Top Section,
the CCC's #4 player, NM Leland
"Ennui"
 Fuerstman (2023) won a lost position versus Josh
"Bluffer" Balogh (1299) in Rd:1,
took advantage of a Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1592)
oversight in Rd:2 and
respectfully issued a Draw to Jonathan
"River" Hudson (1635) in Rd:3 to finish clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and
take home $50.
Equal 2nd-3rd were Hudson and Ozherelyev each with 2-1 winning $12. To
