NEWS & VIEWS 5-7-09
Fuerstman,
Sinanovic Lead
Top; Gordon "B"; Gatlin "C"; Balogh Lower Section of Skyland II
Charlotte, NC 5-6-09: A
normal turnout of 12 of
the
most acute calculators in the Carolinas converged upon this five star
restaurant more commonly known as
the Skyland
Family Restaurant, in order to participate in Rd:3
of Skyland II. (CCC
members got very comfortable
sitting in the padded booths
and
full size tables and chairs while being catered to by a team of
friendly waitresses. Most enjoyed a generously
portioned delicious home
style meal for a ridiculously
low price ($5.95!),
drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board
and occasionally monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned down. Not to
cast any aspersion
on our previous
facility, but the food is excellent and
much cheaper at
Skyland, the location is far better and the place stays open 24 hours!!) In the Top Section, the
CCC's #4 player, the pride of
Mint Hill, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman (2023)
employed a particularly dubious variation of the Budapest Defense versus Duke University graduate student Tim "I just increased my" Rankin (1912) who yielded a mercy Draw on the 16th move!? (See Game 0795).
Fuerstman now
shares the lead with Slobodan
"the Mad Serb" Sinanovic
(1807) who went to the wire with Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1679) each with 2-1. In the "C" Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1451) beat down Octavius
"0-0" Obey (1581) to lead with 2.5-.5. In
the Lower Section, Josh "GTO" Balogh (1299) quickly dispatched of
Wesley "Sherlock" Holmes (1060) to lead with 3-0. In
order to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable"
- The
facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess!) - Long live
the CCC! -

"Ennui" Fuerstman (2023) won a lost position versus Josh
"Bluffer" Balogh (1299) in Rd:1,
took advantage of a Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1592)
oversight in Rd:2 and
respectfully issued a Draw to Jonathan
"River" Hudson (1635) in Rd:3 to finish clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and
take home $50.
Equal 2nd-3rd were Hudson and Ozherelyev each with 2-1 winning $12. To
