Attention All
CCC Members:
I am happy to report that beginning
Wednesday, July 16, the
Charlotte Chess Club will meet at the Seafarer, 9306 Albemarle
Rd.
(Just past Walmart at Harrisburg Rd on right). For years, the Seafarer has enjoyed a
reputation for excellent food
at fair prices! The
spacious "private room"
is well lighted, properly ventilated and perfectly quiet for the
purpose of tournament chess... the room could easily accommodate 50
boards! (All members are asked
to enjoy their dinner at Seafarer). Food will be served until 9:00pm and the bar closes at 11pm!) Our inaugural event
will
include 4 sections: Top $200,
"B" $100, "C" $50 & Lower Section $50. The Entry Fee is
still $4. I
look forward to seeing many smiling
chess faces beginning Wednesday,
July 16 at the Seafarer!!
Long live the
CCC! LF

NEWS & VIEWS 7-6-08
Seafarer New
Home of the Charlotte Chess Club! Prize fund increased to $500!!
Charlotte, NC 7-15-08: After many months of
searching, we have finally found what we were looking for!! It is this editor's honor to
announce that beginning Wednesday, July 16,
2008, the Seafarer
Restaurant will become the home of the Charlotte
Chess Club! Though the location may be a bit
further for some,
and closer for others, it is very easy to find at the intersection of Albemarle Rd.
and Harrisburg
Rd. (Look
for the whale!!) Owner Chris Copsis
is going the extra mile by allowing us to stay till 11pm! The seafood
selection is extraordinary and competitively priced offering one of the
most extensive menues in town. Hey, they also serve beef tips! The "private" room
in the rear is properly
ventilated and adequately lighted
with "padded"
chairs and 8' x 30" tables
with tablecloths!
With space for 100
players,
the room is large enough for some to have quiet conversation or play skittles
without disturbing others. In addition, the bar, which
sells only beer
and wine, allows smoking!?
And, the free
standing building has a huge, well lighted
parking lot. Finally, after dinner at the Seafarer,
your better half can shop at the Wal-mart
across the street while you play chess! This is gonna' be fun!!
**************************************************
Thanks
to the amazing response we have already received from our many
friends and fellow players who have been patiently waiting for the CCC
to come back to life, the CCC
Central Committee has decided to increase the prize fund!! But,
thanks to another benevolent CCC member, with the lower rated players in
mind, the prize fund for Seafarer
I has now been increased to $500
Guaranteed!
The Top
Section
will now offer $200!
the "B"
Section $100,
the "C"
Section $100
and the Lower
Section $100. I personally invite
all USCF rated players in the Charlotte area to participate in Seafarer
I. (Look,
it's worth coming just for the food!!)
**************************************************
In addition,
the CCC
is offering "FREE
ENTRY" for Rd:1 of Seafarer I to anyone who plays at the Asian
Library on the previous Tuesday! - On top of that, the Seafarer
will offer CCC members a "flat rate special"
which will include dinner, drink &
tip! We will also have a large demo
board available - and a Mon-Roi to
try!
**************************************************
Some potential participants have
voiced their concern that they must become members of the CCC in order
to win prize money in Seafarer I.
For our inaugural event, that
requirement has been waived! In addition, the "4 point
requirement" has also
been waived!! All cash prizes are Guaranteed! - CCC members will pay an EF of $4, non-members $6 per game. In addition, if
enough of them show up, a special Scholastic
Section will be conducted with a $2 entry fee per game! G45, Done by 9:00pm!
**************************************************
NOTE:
There seems to be some
confusion about the "food policy" at the Seafarer. It is NOT mandatory for anyone to
purchase food in order to participate. You may arrive at 7:29 pm and play the round
without spending one cent otherwise! Or, you may choose to order a
delicious meal before or during the round and enjoy beverages
throughout the evening. (Please do not bring in food or drink
from other sources). If you are
running late and wish to be paired, simply call 704-778-3211 and I will have an
opponent waiting for you. Remember, we have our own "private room" in
the back of the building. Everyone is welcome, including kids! See you
on Wednesday!
**************************************************
The CCC has long been
known for it's welcome and friendly atmosphere. An artist's pallet does
not contain as many colors as the places of origin of our members. It's
good to share ideas with people from other places! The
CCC will continue an active policy of welcoming new players to USCF
tournament competition. - Long live the CCC!! LF
