Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Independent Affiliate of the USCF meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!) at the Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top $50, "B", "C", Lower Free Entry next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking and friendly management?! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC or USCF simply show up at the site. |
| Explanation
of "Weekly Tournament Competition" The CCC conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - All players who compete in tournament competition are required to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Regardless of which round(s) one chooses to enter, a player only gets credit for the game(s) he actually plays. There is no penalty for not showing up; it is simply counted as an unplayed game. - If you're running late, call me at 704-293-4397 and I'll pair you! Skyland stays open 24 hours! |

NEWS & VIEWS 9-10-09Skyland VI Begins Charlotte, NC 9-9-09: A normal turnout of 14 of the most conscientious calculators in the Carolinas converged upon this think tank more commonly known as Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:1 of Skyland VI. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by a team of friendly waitresses. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($5.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and occasionally monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned down; open  24 hours!!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #3 player, the
pride of Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman
(2005) was summarily routed by superhero Clarke "Kent Brosi (1819) who shares the lead
with renown traveler from Wake
Forest Medical School in Winston-Salem, Dr. Cheng Chu (1976) who outlasted
Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1842) to each
lead with 1-0.
In the "B" Section, Josh "GTO" Balogh (1700) split the point
with Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1700)
each sharing the lead with .5-.5. In
the "C" Section,
Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1514) emerged victorious
against "Smokin" Corey Frazier to lead with 1-0. In the Lower Section, Lee "Roger" Moore (1218) vanquished Copeland
"Copie" Blackwell (1268) to lead with 1-0. In
order to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable"-
The
facility was
great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess!) - Everyone is

| Fuerstman Wins Quark XII Mint Hill, NC 9-5-09: A anticipated light turnout of 7 Labor Day  weekend
warriors gathered at the Mint Hill Public Library in order to participate in Quark XII. After being held to a Draw in Rd:1 by 11 year old Mark "the
Bomb" Biernacki (1305!) (See Game 0819), NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2005) bounced back with
victories over Vadims "the Happy Latvian" Mudrovs (1297) in Rd:2 and Joseph "the Detonator"
Biernacki (1597) in Rd:3 (See Game 0820)
to finish clear 1st Place with
2.5-.5
and pocket $70. Equal 2nd-4th with 2-1 were Joseph "the Detonator" Biernacki, Copeland "Copie" Blackwell and Ron
"the Dutchman" Breukelaar each taking
home $12.
