with
one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm.
The time control is G90
- All players who compete in

NEWS & VIEWS 8-13-09
Sinanovic Leads
Top; 3 "B"; Gatlin "C"; 5 Lower Section of Skyland V
Charlotte, NC 8-12-09:
A slightly stronger turnout of 17
of
the most amicable mental calculators in the Carolinas gathered at this
mnemonic training facility more
commonly known as
the Skyland
Family Restaurant, in order to participate in Rd:2
of Skyland V. (CCC
members got very comfortable
sitting in the padded booths
and
full size tables and chairs while
being catered to by a team of
friendly waitresses. Most
enjoyed a generously
portioned delicious home
style meal for a ridiculously
low price ($5.95!),
drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board
and occasionally
monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned down;
open 24 hours!!) CCC members were honored by the brief visit of Charlotte
chess icon, the good Reverend Bernard
"King" Baker who departed with a sumptuous take-out order for his family! In the Top Section,
72 year old Slobodan "the Mad
Serb" Sinanovic (1840)
outplayed Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1687) to lead with 1.5-.5.
Meanwhile, the CCC's #3
player, the pride of Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2005) traded a
Knight for a few Pawns but with less than one minute on his clock, renown chess traveler Dr.
Cheng Chu (1984) from Winston-Salem prevailed (See Game 0814). In the "B" Section,
returnee to CCC competition Jerome "Cookie -monster" DeBell (1601) schooled upstart
Josh "GTO" Balogh (1716) (See Game 0815) to share the
lead with 2 others with 1 point. In
the "C" Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1544) defused Mark "the
Bomb" Biernacki (1305) to lead with 1-0. In the Lower Section, wins were submitted by Vadims "the Mad Latvian" Mudrovs and new CCC members Ron "the Dutchman" Breukelaar (Unr) each with 1 point. In
order to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable"-
The
facility was
great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess!) - Everyone is
welcome... Long live
the CCC! -
