The
Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at Quaker Steak & Lube
Restaurant, 1601 E.
Woodlawn Rd. (in the Park Road Shopping Center)
Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a
perpetual
5 round tournament
with
one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm.
The time control is 30/1, G30
- Top Section G90.
Entry fee is $4.
($6 for non-members) The Annual club
membership
fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue guarantees
a private room with plenty of
tables, good lighting, great food, close
parking, limited smoking and friendly management?! Join us
to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated
games. Your first
visit is FREE!
Non-members, who have visited
more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2.
The CCC sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss at Quaker Steak & Lube
and other
occasional
tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming
Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and
join
the CCC, NCCA or USCF simply

and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. On this page, which is
continuously updated, we will report a weekly synopsis of the previous
meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other
interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening

Charlotte, NC 1-9-08: Another strong crowd of
20 of the most creative
calculators in the Metrolina area congregated at Quaker Steak &
Lube to enjoy an excellent meal and participate in Rd:2 of Quaker Steak Club 1. In the Top Section, the CCC's #3 player, Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2082) routed the CCC's #7
player, Expert Todd "Squirrel" Trower (2024) to lead with 2-0.
Meanwhile, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2002) hung tough in the
middlegame and ultimately cracked the defenses of Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2009) (See Game
0723), Michael
"Bolton" Kliber (1984)
clobbered 13 year old phenom, 2007
CCC Class "B" Player of
the Year Samuel "Xman" Xin
(1894) and Jamie McGavran
(1912) split the point with 15 year old phenom Dominique "the Dominator" Myers (1830). In the "B" Section, Dr. Gil "Sherlock" Holmes (1739) performed a successful
lobotomy on Andras "Master" Bader (1735) while Derek "Cats" Smith (1737) made peace with Ankit "Butch" Jivan
(1592). In the Lower Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin 1225) beat down Dave "Salt"
Peter (1350) to lead with 2-0. Other Lower
Section winners were: Lee
Moore, Copeland Blackwell and Dr. Ron Futerman. All
results may be observed on the current "Crosstable." Note:
The CCC has relocated
to Quaker

McCartney Wins Quaker
Steak V
Charlotte NC 12-15-07: A grand total of 8 of the most competent
competitors in the Carolina's travelled to the Queen City in
order to participate in Quaker Steak V. In the Top Section,
the CCC's #10 player, the pride of
Stallings, NC, Patrick "Fabio"
McCartney (2014)
dispatched of Ken "the Great" Ivens (1736) in Rd:1, split the point with Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1795) in Rd:2 and used just enough kryptonite
in Rd:3 to defeat mild
mannered reporter Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1764) to finish clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and
take home $80.
Clear 2nd Place was Sinanovic with 2-1 winning $40. In
