us, stops us, shifts us ahead, and soon picks us up
one after the other and gathers us in the same box of Nothing."

shackling the mind and brain so that the inner freedom and independence
of even the strongest character cannot remain unaffected."

doing easily what is
difficult for others, but genius
is doing what is impossible

playing of a master ties him to the game, fetters his mind and shapes
it to a certain extent so that his internal freedom and ease, no matter
how strong he is, must inevitably be affected." Spinoza

moves." Horowitz
"The older I grow, the more I value my
pawns." Keres
"Morphy was probably the greatest genius of

NEWS & VIEWS 10-22-09 Fuerstman Leads
Top; Wright, Gordon "B"; Gatlin "C"; Blackwell Lower Section of Skyland
VII Charlotte, NC 10-21-09:
An even lighter turnout of 10
of
the
most honored members of the CCC Royal Guard converged upon this grand
ballroommore commonly
known as Skyland Family
Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:2 of Skyland VII. (CCC
members got very comfortable
sitting in the padded booths
and
full size tables and chairs while
being catered to by a team of
friendly waitresses. Most
enjoyed a generously
portioned delicious home
style meal for a ridiculously
low price ($5.95!),
drank fresh
hot coffee and
other beverages, analyzed on our demo board
and occasionally
monitored the giant flat screen TV with the
sound
turned down;
open 24 hours!!) In the Top Section, the
pride of Mint Hill, Ex-Member
of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2005) launched a
premature attack by boldly sacrificing a Bishop on move 11 which
Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1869) defended to the max; but the
former Master, current Expert, almost "A" Player! prevailed in a
complicated ending (See Game 0826) to lead with 2-0. In the "B" Section,
new CCC member John W. "Bill" Wright (1732) lost tract of a couple
of Pawns but took advantage of a late middlegame error against Daryl
"Flash" Gordon (1700) each now with 1-1. In the "C" Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1442) endured all he could
handle from the good reverend Erman Bradley (Unr) but finally won in
the end to lead with 2-0. In order
to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable"-
The
facility was
great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join us next Wednesdayto
dine, socialize and play chess!)- Everyone is
welcome... Long live
the CCC! -
