Here is the only truth:  "We are the pawns of the mysterious game of chess played by God,  who moves us,  stops us,  shifts us ahead,  and soon picks us up one after the other and gathers us in the same box of  Nothing."
Omar Khayyam 1040 ad

"Chess grips its exponent, shackling the mind and brain so that the inner freedom and independence of even the strongest character cannot remain unaffected."  Albert Einstein
"Imagination does not breed insanity. Exactly what does breed insanity is reason.  Poets do not go mad;  but chess-players do".
—Chesterton, The Maniac (1908).

is doing what is impossible

   Amiel
"the chess playing of a master ties him to the game, fetters his mind and shapes it to a certain extent so that his internal freedom and ease, no matter how strong he is, must inevitably be affected."  Spinoza
"One bad move nullifies 40 good moves."  Horowitz
"The older I grow, the more I value my pawns."  Keres
"Morphy was probably the greatest genius of them all."  Fischer
"I thinks it's almost definite that the game is a draw theoretically."  Fischer

Sinanovic, Brosi Share Top Honors; Balogh "B"; Breukelaar Lower Section of Skyland VI
Charlotte, NC 10-7-09:  A grand total of 12 of the most congenial competitors in the county congregated at this mental jousting arena more commonly known as Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Skyland VI. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by a team of friendly waitresses. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($5.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and occasionally monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned down; open 24 hours!!) In the Top Section, "Look, up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman" disguised as mild mannered reporter for the Daily Planet Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1819) who for the second time in as many tries dispatched of NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2205) to share =1st-2nd Place with Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1842) who outplayed Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1700) each with 3 points. In the "B" Section, Josh "GTO" Balogh (1700) outgunned Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1514) (See Game 0824) to take clear 1st Place with 2.5-1.5. In the Lower Section, Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (Unr) took clear 1st Place with 3-0. In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable"- The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play chess!) -  Everyone is welcome... Long live the CCC! -
