NEWS & VIEWS 11-5-09 Fuerstman Leads
Top; Gordon "B"; Gatlin "C"; Frazier Lower Section of Skyland
VII Charlotte, NC 11-4-09:
A much stronger turnout of 12
of
the most competent calculators in the Carolinas converged upon this
mental jousting arena more commonly
known as Skyland Family
Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:4 of Skyland VII. (CCC
members got very comfortable
sitting in the padded booths
and
full size tables and chairs while
being
catered to by a team of
friendly waitresses. Most
enjoyed a generously
portioned delicious home
style meal for
a ridiculously
low price ($5.95!),
drank fresh
hot coffee and
other beverages, analyzed on our demo board
and occasionally
monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned down;
open 24 hours!!)In my absence last Wednesday evening, the honorable Mr. Tom Haleswent
beyond the call of duty and volunteered to drive all of the way from
Asheboro to Charlotte in order to conduct the Charlotte Chess Club. My
sincere thanks to the most competent and constructive member of the North
Carolina chess community for his timely assistance. In
the Top Section, only a 4 day visit to the
hospital prevented NM Leland
Fuerstman (2000) from competing but still leads with 3.5-.5.
Meanwhile, Team Asheboro's Jonathon
"Livingston" McNeill (1980)
vanquished Bill "Mindweeder" Wright (1732). In the "B" Section, in spite of the fact
that Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1700) was outplayed by Team Asheboro's Tom "Terrific" Hales (1789) (See Game 0829)
he still leads with 2-2. In
addition, Team Asheboro's Jordan "Tiger" Wood (1706) escaped the clutches of
Josh "GTO" Balogh (1616). Although Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1434) lost to
newcomer Torre Hawkins (1426)
he still leads with 2-2. In the Lower Section, returnee to CCC competition
after being hit by a car!? "Smokin" Corey
Frazier (1222) dispatched of newcomer Mark Thompson. In order
to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable"-
The
facility was
great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join us next Wednesdayto
dine, socialize and play chess!)- Everyone is
welcome... Long live
