Wendy's 94 Begins

Charlotte, NC 2-6-08:  A moderate turnout of 16 of the most talented chess players from two states gathered at this political caucus ballroom more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:1 of Wendy's 94. (Special thanks to LTD Expert Patrick McCartney for filling in while I was in Costa Rica! I am happy to report that Jon Pietras is alive and well! Take a peek into the crater of the Poas Volcano located approximately 50 kilometers north of San Jose) In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse, NC, 2007 CCC Player of the Year NM Frankie "Bluffer" Newton (2287) went "all in" on returnee to CCC competition Gary "Sandbagger" Branton (1914) while SCCA President Expert Keith "Chuckie" Eubanks (2068) schooled Devin Davis (Unr) to each lead with 1-0. In addition, Expert Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2016) split the point with 16 year old phenom Dominique "the Dominator" Myers (1828) as did Michael "Bolton" Kliber (1960) with Dr. Gil "Sherlock" Holmes (1751).  In the "B" Section, Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1746) deflected the bullets of Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1267) to lead with 1-0. In the Lower Section, wins were reported by Andrew Turner, Corey Frazier and Joe Shirlen each leading with 1-0. All results may be observed on the current "Crosstable."  McCartney directed. * Our next Saturday 3 round event is March 15 (if I can find a suitable site). E-mail lelandfue@yahoo.com to have your name placed on the list of players who "Intend to Participate."
