us, stops us, shifts us ahead, and soon picks us up
one after the other and gathers us in the same box of Nothing."

of even the strongest character cannot remain unaffected."

Exactly what does breed insanity is reason. Poets do not go
mad; but chess-players do".

how strong he is, must inevitably be affected." Spinoza |

NEWS & VIEWS 4-9-09
Fuerstman Leads
Top; Gordon "B"; Alexander "C"; Frazier Lower
Section of Skyland I
Charlotte, NC 4-8-09:
A particularly light turnout of 11
of the
most creative calculators in the Carolinas congregated at this
luxurious 5 star ballroom more commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant, in order to participate in Rd:4 of Skyland I. (CCC
members got very comfortable
sitting in the padded booths and
full size tables and chairs while being catered to by a team of
friendly waitresses. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home
style meal for a ridiculously
low price ($5.95!),
drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board
and occasionally monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned down. Not to
cast any aspersion
on our previous
facility, but the food is excellent and
much cheaper at
Skyland, the location is far better and the place stays open 24 hours!!) In the Top Section, the
CCC's #4 player, the pride of
Mint Hill, NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman (2011)
launched a decisive attack with the London System which featured a
clever conclusion (See Game 0788) versus Daryl
"Flash" Gordon (1619) to lead with 3-1.
Meanwhile, Slobodan "the Mad
Serb" Sinanovic (1807) was
held to a Draw by Marnzell
"Pat" Hand (1610)! In the "C" Section, Michael "Xan" Alexander (1458) split the point with Josh "Bluffer"
Balogh (Unr) to
lead with 2.5-1.5.
In addition, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1451) outplayed Wesley
"Sherlock" Holmes (Unr). In the Lower
Section, though he
lost to Octavius "0-0" Obey (1560), "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1315) still leads
with 3-1.
In
order to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable"
- The
facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess!) - Long live
