| The
Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm
(or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at the Skyland Family Restaurant, 4544 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC (Just past Woodlawn Rd towards town on L) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:45pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top $50, "B", "C", Lower Free Entry next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue is "open 24 hours" and guarantees a private area with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking and friendly management?! (The Management requests that you purchase your meal at Skyland) Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC, NCCA or USCF simply show up at the site. |

NEWS & VIEWS 6-18-09Fuerstman Leads Top; Gordon "B"; Balogh "C"; Frazier Lower Section of Skyland III Charlotte, NC 6-17-09: A stronger turnout of 15 of the most competitive calculators in the Carolinas converged upon this think tank more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant, in order to participate in Rd:4 of Skyland III. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by a team of friendly waitresses. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($5.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and occasionally monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned down; open 24 hours!!) All CCC members  were pleasantly surprised by the
visit of a number of strong players to include Greensboro Favorite Son Jacob "Dylan" Parrish (1954) who played some
skittles! In the Top Section, in spite of the fact that
he was severely waddled upon by upstart Bobby
"Duck" Waddell (1938) (See Game 0803),
the
CCC's #3 player, the pride of Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2023) still leads with 2-2. In
addition, David K. Williams from Spartanburg, SC split the point with newcomer Dr.
Cheng Chu (1820)
from Winston-Salem. In the "B" Section, Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1679) won a nice King and
Pawn ending from Michael "Xan" Alexander (1451) to lead with 2.5-1.5. In
addition, Slobodan "the Mad
Serb" Sinanovic (1793)
schooled upstart Josh "GTO" Balogh (1514) who still leads the "C" Section with 2.5-1.5. In
the Lower Section, in spite of the fact that
he lost to returnee to CCC competition Copeland
"Copie" Blackwell (1283),
Corey Frazier (1319) still leads with 2-2. In
order to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable"
- The
facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players
will
join us next Wednesday to
dine, socialize and play chess!) - Everyone is
