Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at The Seafarer, 9306 Albemarle Rd. (Just past Walmart at Harrisburg Rd. on right) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top $200, "B" $100, "C" 100, Lower $100. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue guarantees a private room with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, limited smoking in the "bar" and friendly management?! Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. NEWS & VIEWS 7-17-08CCC Back in Action at New Location as Seafarer I Begins; The Food is Fantastic! Charlotte, NC 7-16-08: A contented crowd of 21 of the most friendly chessplayers in the two Carolinas navigated their way to where the big ships pull into harbor more commonly known as the Seafarer in order to participate in Rd:1 of Seafarer I. (Many of those who participated enjoyed a delicious meal with friends and family prior to and during tournament play. Others drank beverages and coffee. Our private room is spacious, reasonably lighted and very quiet!) In the Top Section, 2008 North Carolina State Champion NM Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2240)  outplayed Spartenburg, S.C. icon David K. Williams (1904) (See Game 0742),
in spite of a time deficit, Expert Keith
"Chuckie" Eubanks
(2075) from Columbia beat down returnee to CCC competition Gary
"Sandbagger" Branton (1902), NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman
(2000) first lost one Pawn, then another, before Team Asheboro's 2008 North Carolina Scholastic Champion Jonathon McNeill (1859)
tried something cute - which backfired (See Game 0741), each leading
with 1-0.
In addition, Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1932) split the point with a stubborn Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1709).  In the "B" Section,
NCCA President Randy "Wheels" Wheeless (1664) made peace with Asheboro CC President Tom "Terrific" Hales (1580) to each share the lead
with Lucas with .5-.5. In the
"C" Section, Nate Eerenberg (1486) won a Pawn
down ending from Lee "R&Bman" Richardson (1458) to lead with 1-0. In the Lower Section, wins were submitted by Winfred "Guns" Gatlin, "Smokin" Corey Frazier, Vadims Mudrovs and Charlie Carerros each with 1-0. See "Current
