Leland: So It
didn't fully sink in until about 2 hours
after the tournament ended. I won first
place! What a great feeling. My cheeks
were sore from smiling so much. I guess
I just wanted to give you a personal
thanks for your efforts to make these
tournaments happen. And thanks too, for
the instruction (which most assuredly
led to my victory). Your friend, Mike
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike:
You are more than just a chess player;
you are a mechanic
who plays chess,
and that is very good for me!!! LOL I
have thoroughly enjoyed my friendship
with you. Your attitude about chess,
as well as life, is something that I
wish others would adopt. You are an
excellent student and seem to be
absorbing the info at break neck
speed! As you have begun to understand
concepts and strategy, your results at
the CCC have continued to improve.
Congratulations on earning the Title
of 2013 "Class D" Charlotte City Chess
Champion! You most definitely deserve
it! Leland

Charlotte,
NC 8-4-13: A
predictably light turnout of 29free
spirited chess players(who
apparently didn't get the
message from GN to boycott
the event??)
from as far away as Memphis,
Tennessee congregated
on the 7th floor of the Dowd
Y in order to participate
in the 2013
Charlotte City Chess
Championship.(As a
result of the poor turnout,
the sections were adjusted
as was the prize fund. We
still payed back more money
than was required. It seems
as though Gary
Newsom's impromptu smear
campaign prevented many
players from participating
in an exceptionally well run
event) In the
