Here is the only truth:  "We are the pawns of the mysterious game of chess played by God,  who moves us,  stops us,  shifts us ahead,  and soon picks us up one after the other and gathers us in the same box of  Nothing."
Omar Khayyam 1040 ad

"Chess grips its exponent, shackling the mind and brain so that the inner freedom and independence of even the strongest character cannot remain unaffected."  Albert Einstein
"Imagination does not breed insanity. Exactly what does breed insanity is reason.  Poets do not go mad;  but chess-players do".
—Chesterton, The Maniac (1908).

"The older I grow, the more I value my pawns."  Keres
"Morphy was probably the greatest genius of them all."  Fischer

Skyland V Begins
Charlotte, NC 8-5-09:  A good turnout of 16 of the most creative calculators in the Carolinas converged upon this mental jousting arena more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant, in order to participate in Rd:1 of Skyland V. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by a team of friendly waitresses. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($5.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and occasionally monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned down; open 24 hours!!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #3 player, the pride of Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2005) overlooked a middlegame killer  but ultimately prevailed over Team Asheboro's Tom "Terrific" Hales (1815) (See Game 0812) to lead with 1-0. Meanwhile, Team Asheboro's Jonathon "Livingston" McNeill (1949) split the point with a stubborn Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1840). In the "B" Section, Daryl "Flash Gordon (1687) outplayed Joseph Biernacki (1584) while Team Asheboro's Jordan "Tiger" Wood (1760) slowed down Josh "GTO" Balogh (1587) (See Game 0813) to each lead with 1-0. In the Lower Section, wins were reported by Copeland "Copie" Blackwell, "Smokin" Corey Frazier, Lee "Roger" Moore and Julius Souffran each with 1-0. In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable"- The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play chess!) -  Everyone is welcome... Long live the CCC! -
