"You don't stop playing when you

Benjamin Franklin

Here is the only truth: "We are the
pawns of the mysterious game of chess played by God, who moves
us, stops us, shifts us ahead, and soon picks us up
one after the other and gathers us in the same box of Nothing."

shackling the mind and brain so that the inner freedom and independence
of even the strongest character cannot remain unaffected."
Albert

"Imagination does not breed insanity.
Exactly what does breed insanity is reason. Poets do not go
mad; but chess-players do".
—Chesterton, The Maniac

$1,000 Match! - Fuerstman vs.
Branton |
CCC
NEWS & VIEWS 9-4-08
Fuerstman Leads
Top; Mouse "A"; Wheeless "B"; Eerenberg "C"; Alexander Lower Section of
Seafarer II
Charlotte, NC 9-3-08: A slightly stronger
turnout
of 14 very
comfortable and well fed mental jousters continued to defy the boycott
and reported to this well appointed banquet hall more commonly
known as the Seafarer (Just
look for the 3-D Whale!) where they
enjoyed a delicious dinner prior to and during Rd:3 of Seafarer II. (In
order to placate the management, the time control has been changed to Game 60! so we can be out by 10:00pm! This will allow more
young players and early risers to participate). In the Top Section, the CCC's
#6 player, the pride of Mint
Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2000) played a rarely
seen Pawn sac variation of the Botvinnik - Panov Attack versus Team Salisbury's Greg "Horns" Hall (1797)
which was littered with errors?! (Position
after 15 Rc4!)
When the smoke cleared, Black was the exchange up, but
unfortunately overlooked
checkmate (See
Game 0753) allowing Fuerstman
to lead with 2.5-.5.
In addition, all CCC players welcome new member Expert Vladimir
Tkatchouk (2084) who defeated compatriot Vadims Mudrovs (1534) (See Game 0754).
In the "A" Section,
representing all of the frightened mice
in the Charlotte area who don't show up to compete at the CCC, Mickey Mouse (1999) was awarded his
3rd consecutive Bye to lead with 3-0!! LOL - (Hey
guys; you're missing out on some great food and lively conversation!)
In the "B" Section, NCCA President the Honorable Charles R. "Randy" Wheeless (1664) beat down Bryan
"Beach Boy" Wilson (1743) to lead with 2-0. In the "C" Section, Nathaniel "E's" Eerenberg (1486) sold a few vowels
to Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1287) to lead with 1-1. In the Lower Section, Michael Alexander (1395) outplayed
Corey Frazier (1059) to lead with 3-0. Other Lower Section winners were Lee "Roger" Moore. See "Current
Crosstable" for complete results. (The
facility was great! Everybody was happy! We hope more players join us
next week for G60! -
