The
Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at The Seafarer, 9306 Albemarle Rd.
(Just past Walmart
at Harrisburg Rd. on right)
Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a
perpetual
5 round tournament
with
one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm.
The time control is G60

Entry fee is $4.
($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top $50. "B", "C", Lower Free Entry
next event.
The Annual club
membership
fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue guarantees
a private room with plenty of
tables, good lighting, great food, close
parking, limited smoking in the "bar" and friendly management?! Join us
to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated
games. Your first
visit is FREE!
Non-members, who have visited
more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2.
The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss
and other special
tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming
Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and
join
the CCC, NCCA or USCF simply

and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. On this page, which is
continuously updated, we will report a weekly synopsis of the previous
meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other
interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening

Mabe Takes Top;
Lucas "B"; Hales "C"; Gatlin Lower Section of
Seafarer I
Charlotte, NC 8-13-08: A grand total of 36 loyal members of the CCC
Royal Guard vied for a share of the $500
guaranteed prize fund as
they participated in Seafarer I. In the Top Section,
the CCC's #2 player, 2008 North & South Carolina Champion NM Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2265) split the point with
Expert Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2080) to take clear 1st Place with 3-1 and
pocket $200! (McCartney
just returned from the U.S. Open in Texas where he scored 6-3 and increased his rating to 2080!). In addition,
Expert Michael "Bolton" Kliber (2000) clobbered NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman (2000). In the "B" Section, Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1709)
made peace with Salisbury's Greg
"Horns" Hall (1798) to take
clear 1st Place with 2.5-2.5. (Lucas
donated his prize back to the CCC general fund!). In the "C" Section, Team Asheboro's Tom "Terrific" Hales (1580) schooled Charlie
"Tenor" Carerros (1168) to take clear 1st
Place with 4-1 and
collect $100.
In addition, Nathaniel "E's" Eerenberg (1486) split the point
with Adam "Counselor Jr" Clontz (1553). In the Lower
Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1284) unloaded on Lee
"Roger" Moore (1126) to take clear 1st
Place with 4-1 and
collect $100.
Other Lower Section winners were: Michael Alexander. See
"Current
Crosstable" for complete results. The CCC was honored by the
brief visit of father and son team of International Masters from
Germany, Ernst
and Otto Schroder!
