Out-of-State Players/Organizer?!
|
North Carolina Open
Whatever
happened to the North
Carolina State Championship?? And, since we already have the
LPO, Land of the Sky and many other 5 round "open" events in North
Carolina, why is it necessary to allow out-of-state players to ruin the
soverignty of our State Championship? Back in the 70's, the NCCA
constitution, (which is nowhere to be found on their website and no
longer even seems to exist), required that a "closed tournament be
conducted each year in order to determine our State Champion."
(Remember: "only residents, full time students & military personel
are allowed to compete"). It is inherently unfair for a NC contender to
be required to play an out-of-state player who may spoil his chances to
win the crown?! Why or when that bylaw was changed is not important.
Our new administrators must make the correction for the good of all
North Carolina players. - And, while we are on the subject, why is it
necessary to farm out our State Championship to an out-of-state
promoter who is sure to profit greatly from the event, as usual, with
the efficient assistance of an all North Carolina crew?? Look, I've
known Thad Rogers for over 30 years! He already runs the LPO and the
Land of the Sky; but our state championship is different! The
responsibility of conducting this tournament falls upon the officers of
the NCCA. To allow an out-of-state promoter to reap the reward$ of our
State Championship when there are so many other competent
promoters/directors in North Carolina is difficult to understand?! Wake
up, people. Do the right thing and insist these changes be made. Oh,
while you're at it, you might want to include a "Mission Statement" on
the website as well as update the NCCA membership database
by
deleting members who expired years ago and reflect the names and E-mail
addresses of "current members only." Good luck next weekend. LF

NEWS & VIEWS 10-23-08
Tkatchouk,
Fuerstman Share Top Honors; Morais "B"; Alexander "C"; Carerros Lower
Section of
Seafarer III - Just Look for the 3-D Whale!!
Charlotte, NC 10-22-08: A grand total of 14 of the most congenial chess
players in the Charlotte area navigated their way to this very well
lighted, very quiet and very comfortable formal banquet hall more commonly known as the Seafarer
in order to participate in Seafarer III. In the "hotly contested" Top Section,
the CCC's #6 player, the pride of Mint Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2000) survived a
complicated endgame that went to the wire (See Game 0765) versus his
sparring partner, the
CCC's #3 player and pride of
Moskow, Russia via Mexico! Expert Dr. Vladimir Vladimirovich
Tkatchouk (2104) each finishing =1st-2nd
with 3-2. In the "B" Section, the pride of Kingston,
Jamaica, Alain "Rastamon" Morais (1738) beat down Vadims "the
Mad Rigan" Mudrovs (1534) to take clear 1st Place with 3-1. In
addition, Derek
"Cats" Smith (1733)
quickly dispatched of NCCA President
Randy "Wheels"
Wheeless (1667). In the "C" Section,
Michael "Sandy" Alexander (1416) bested Charlie
"Tenor" Carerros (1370) to take clear 1st
Place with 3-1. In the Lower Section, in spite of the fact that
he lost to Alexander,
Charlie "Tenor" Carerros (1370) took clear 1st Place with 4-1 and won Free Entry
into Seafarer VI. Other Lower Section winners were "Smokin" Corey Frazier. In
order to observe all results see "Current
Crosstable". (The
facility was great! Everybody was happy! We hope that more players will
join us
next week to dine, socialize and play chess!)
- Long live the CCC! LF
